In this article from New Music Box, composer Darcy James Argue makes the argument that jazz is not dead, and is indeed moving forward by the acts of contemporary jazz artists such as Kurt Rosenwinkel, Mark Turner, Brad Mehldau, Dave Douglas, and others. Argue believes that these musicians' ability to cross genres and appeal to a wider audience is what will keep jazz alive in the future. I would definitely have to agree as some of the musicians that I have been really listening to the past few years include Dave Douglas, Kurt Rosenwinkel, and Brad Mehldau. To me, these musicians are forward-thinkers. They have taken the ideals that jazz was founded on, and expanded them using their original music as the vehicle for their personal sounds to come through, thus propelling their music in a new direction.
