Well, I hope that everyone out there had a wonderful 4th of July, and had a chance to celebrate our nation's birthday in fine form. My 4th of July celebration consisted of me riding my bike 48 miles, followed by a long recovery period on the couch. Normally 48 miles on the road bike is not a big deal at all; however, when I left that morning for the ride, all that I had in my stomach was a bowl of cereal and a few cups of coffee. I was only planning to be out for about an hour, but it was just a gorgeous day in Fargo-Moorhead, and I wanted to take advantage of the blue bird skies and NO wind. The ride was going just beautiful until I hit about that 30-mile marker. I could feel my body start to shut down, and knew right then that I hadn't eaten enough before I left and was going to pay for it. I bonked hard! If it wasn't for a certain someone that was willing to ride her bike out north of Moorhead to meet me with some food, I am not sure that I would have made it back. Thanks Di! Needless to say, it was a lesson well-learned; but, I was happy that I got out to enjoy the outdoors doing one of the things that I enjoy most in life. What more could one ask for.
